Verizon IMEI Check: Blacklist, ESN & Loan Status
Find out in seconds if an iPhone, Samsung, Pixel or any other Verizon phone is clean, blacklisted or still on a Verizon device payment loan.
Verizon blacklist and ESN check before you buy
Verizon blocks the IMEI (device ID) of phones reported lost or stolen and of phones with unpaid bills or fraud on the account. Such a phone has a bad ESN: it cannot be activated on Verizon and usually not on other US networks either. The Verizon IMEI check reads the current status of the device in the Verizon system and shows Clean, Blacklisted or LOAN.
Run the Verizon blacklist check before you buy a used phone from the US, before you order an unlock and right after an online purchase. LOAN means the phone is still being paid off under a Verizon device payment agreement and can be blocked if the payments stop. For a full picture also run the GSMA blacklist check.
What the Verizon IMEI report shows
You get the model and the Verizon status of the device with the reason for a block. A real result looks like this:
What the Verizon status means
- Clean – the IMEI is not reported lost or stolen and has no unpaid balance. The phone has a clean ESN and can be activated.
- Blacklisted – the phone was reported lost or stolen, or blocked for non-pay or fraud. It will not activate on Verizon (bad ESN).
- LOAN – the phone is financed on a Verizon account and not paid off yet. It can be blacklisted if the payments stop.

How do I check if a phone is blacklisted on Verizon?
Enter the 15-digit IMEI on this page and press Check. The report shows Clean, Blacklisted or LOAN and the reason for a block.
What is a bad ESN on Verizon?
A bad ESN means the device ID is blocked: the phone was reported lost or stolen or has an unpaid balance. A factory reset does not change it; only the account owner can resolve it with Verizon.
What does the LOAN status mean?
The phone is being paid off in installments on a Verizon account. Until the balance is paid, it can be blocked if the payments stop, even after you buy it.
Does the Verizon IMEI check work for iPhone and Android?
Yes. Any phone with an IMEI that was sold by Verizon or used on its network can be checked: iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, Motorola and others.
Is the Verizon IMEI check free?
Yes. The check is free and needs no registration. Guests get several free checks per day; registered accounts can raise the limit and turn off ads.
Is it safe to share my IMEI?
An IMEI identifies the device, not you. It cannot be used to unlock the phone or access your data. Do not share passwords or your account login with anyone.
