Why check if an iPhone was bypassed

A bypassed iPhone looks like a normal phone, but the original owner’s iCloud Activation Lock is still on. After an update or a reset the phone asks for that Apple ID again and becomes useless. Bypassed devices are often lost or stolen, and they usually cannot make calls or use iCloud properly.

The bypass check compares the Find My status reported by the device with Apple’s records. If Find My is off on the phone but Apple still sees an Activation Lock, the device was bypassed.

What the result means

  1. Bypassed: NO – the device is not bypassed. You can restore and update it without problems.
  2. Bypassed: YES – the device was bypassed and still has a hidden Activation Lock of another Apple ID.
  3. If you see YES, do not buy the device or ask the seller to remove it from the original iCloud account.
